She's a member of the guild known as The Companions. After you complete the questline associated with the guild, she can become a follower or be married.

One thing that I hope Bethesda adds to Fallout 4 is something similar to Skyrim's marriage system. I mean, maybe a bit more complex considering that all you had to do to get married in Skyrim is wear an amulet and ask someone if they're interested in you, and then BAM! YOU GOTTA GET MARRIED!

It was a new feature in Skyrim, wasn't it? It's not too unreasonable to think marriage could make its way into Fallout.

I think it was, but Oblivion may have had something like that too. But, in Fallout 2, you could get married, yet they didn't add anything like that to 3 or NV.

I'm pretty sure Oblivion didn't have marriage; at least not without mods. Skyrim was the first time marriage was more than simply having a follower.
