It was warm inside. There was a fireplace on the north side, next to it a few beds. A small kitchen was on the east wall, with a pantry containing small bread cakes and butter. On the west wall was a longchair (I believe that is what they called couches back in those times), and to the south wall, a wardrobe.
In the fireplace something was cooking. A Brownie was stirring something that looked like apple cider, but had the consistency of soup.
"So, which beds do you sleep in?" Brenn asked the Brownies.
"Oh, we make our homes in the attic," one answered. "Oh, I am Oscar the II. My father, Oscar the I, helped make this place. You travelers can stay here as long as you wish." He dipped his head in a bow.
"Splendid!" Archie says, looking at the apple soup.
Grace sets down the dog she had been carrying, who was still asleep.
