"Work, swine!"
The sounds of whips cracking and rocks smashing filled the air. Soldiers in metal armor and swords guarded all exits to the camp. This was the test. A thing every child had to go through before the age of 15. Right now, the "testers" were breaking stones. The ones doing the best were the ones who were poor, the rich ones doing almost nothing but complaining. There was one girl in the corner breaking swiftly through stones, unlike most of them.

"These rocks won't break themselves!"
Dust from the rocks filled the air. Next to her, she would find a complaining boy being beaten with a whip. It was cruel, she may have thought, for a girl her age. Some were doing well, however.

The Great and Lovable Peridot
He could hear nothing but burning. The mess hall was on fire.
The three blessed that had broken out of the Test were being pursuited by the soldiers. Most kids had stayed to break rocks, too scared to enter the mess hall. With half of the soldiers gone, the kids could be a bit more free with what they did.
But the food was destroyed. All the bread, burned. The meat, roasted. The water, spilled. Barely enough for the kids to share.

The girl swiped some beads of sweat off her face. Her pick had begun to dull from the speed.

Samantha flicked her long hair back. Her golden strands gleamed, looking out of place in all the dust and rocks.

[Zoroveemew]

Thgirl in the corner continues to work until stopped by a guard. She was let free to go to the mess hall.
"You may go," a soldier says gruffly after grabbing Samantha by the shoulder. He points to the direction the girl was going.

Samantha nodded, following the girl. Her stomach rumbled with hunger. She left her pick and began to run.

She ran past the girl, her smile obvious. Her energetic self was extremely out of place in the dull and gray place.

[Zoroveemew]

The girl sees her speed, smiles, and runs after her, as if it were a competition.
As they arrive, they could see that they were the first. On the middle table was the food later out; each Tester got a piece of bread, choice of meat, and water. The rations were small, but it would do.
The girl finds a ceramic plate and goes to the table, picking out bread, a chicken leg, and water. She sits down in the very corner of the room, near the guards. Obviously trying to prove something...

Samantha smiles. She grabs a plate, tossing it around like a Frisbee. She gingerly caught it each time. As she reached the food, she filled her plate with bread, chicken, and water. She went over to the girl, sitting down.

[Zoroveemew]

The girl looks her way. "The Test is rather strange, eh? Oh, we haven't met yet, have we now? I am Brenn. Thou name is?"

[sophaderp]

"Never say 'thou' again." She laughed. "Samantha. Nice to meet you." She held out her hand. "And yes... it is..."

[Zoroveemew]

"What is wrong with 'thou'?" Brenn says. "A pleasure to meet you, Samantha."

[Raven Feather]

Raven had followed the others, restraining herself from fighting and protecting the boy. When she got to food, she took some bread, water and some raw meat, as that was most of her diet.

"Meh, it just seems so... dark. Like the dark ages." She joked. In a flash, she had turned into an anorak.

Raven looked at her quickly

She leapt around the mess hall, her wolf version seeming much more friendly. A spear grazed her pelt, as she looked at one of the guards. Whining, she returned to her seat, and turned into a human yet again.
